Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the tallest lighthouse in America at 210 ft. It was built around 1870 on the site where previous smaller lighthouses stood. Due to increasing erosion, the lighthouse was moved almost 3000 feet away from the Atlantic Ocean in 1999.
